One single Dark Gunner will become a Death Gunner (red gem) at random after each attack cycle.
Dark/Death Gunners cannot be damaged with non-elemental attacks between attack cycles, when they are mobile. Status effects such as Paralyze or Frozen are effective to allow non-elemental attacks to cause damage.
Damaging a Dark Gunner when it's preparing to attack will prevent that one Dark Gunner from attacking.
Damaging a Death Gunner (not pictured, red gem) when it's preparing to attack will prevent not only the Death Gunner but also all Dark Gunners from attacking.
Killing a Death Gunner in a single blow does not prevent attacks from Dark Gunners. Status such as Paralyze or Frozen may not prevent attacks from other Dark Gunners when the Death Gunner is damaged.
