Revision as of 13:47, 16 July 2017
ES weapons, informally known as S-Rank Weapons or S-Ranks, are a special category of weapon which encompass all the weapon types and a few extras, such as the Needle. They have the visual of a basic weapon with a brown photon. Unlike regular weapons, they have a few unique properties:
- Custom 8-character name (A-Z only)
- Cannot have any attributes
- Can have a custom special applied, which has no reduction regardless of weapon type.
Availability
They are obtained after the completion of Challenge Mode with an S-Rank rating, the choice of weapon depending on the episode cleared.
By completing Episode 1 Challenge Mode under 7 hours, the player can choose one of the following:
- ES Saber
- ES Sword
- ES Blade
- ES Partisan
- ES Twin
- ES Claw
- ES Slicer
- ES Gun
- ES Mechgun
- ES Rifle
- ES Shot
- ES Cane
- ES Wand
- ES Rod
By completing Episode 2 Challenge Mode under 5 hours, the player can choose one of the following:
- ES Bazooka (has the appearance of Inferno Bazooka)
- ES Scythe (has the appearance of Soul Eater/Soul Banish)
- ES Hammer (has the appearance of Toy Hammer)
- ES Moon (has the appearance of Summit Moon)
- ES Psychogun (has the appearance of Twin Psychogun)
- ES Punch (has the appearance of Rocket Punch?)
- ES Windmill (has the appearance of Windmill)
- ES Harisen (has the appearance of Harisen Battle Fan)
- ES Katana (has the appearance of ???)
- ES J-Cutter (has the appearance of Flight Cutter)
- ES Swords
- ES Launcher (has the appearance of Photon Launcher, but without visible photons on the Launcher itself)
- ES Knuckle (has the appearance of Brave Knuckle, but Brave Knuckle is invisible)
- ES Cards (has the appearance of Talis)
- ES Axe (has the appearance of Victor Axe but with brown photons)
Additional Information
Certain ES Weapons cannot be equipped Android classes if they have Spirit, Geist, or TP Recovery special added. Other ES weapons do not have this restriction.
Despite having a rarity of 12 stars, ES Weapons are only worth 5 Team Points individually when.
To add specials to ES Weapons, you have to talk to Paganini in the quest East Tower, and bring him the data from the terminal on the top floor of East Tower. Once you have this completed, you will have the option to "Modify ES Weapon" when talking to Paganini in the quest Gallon's Shop.
The list of specials that can be added to ES weapons can be found here. On Phantasy Star Online: Blue Burst, the specials are categorized into S, A, B, C Rank, which should not be confused with Challenge Mode rankings. Each rank costs a different amount of Photon Drops to have the special added.
- S Rank (60 Photon Drops): Jellen, Zalure
- A Rank (50 Photon Drops): Hell, Demon's, Arrest
- B Rank (40 Photon Drops): Spirit, Berserk, Chaos, King's, Geist, Gush
- C Rank (30 Photon Drops): Blizzard, Burning, Tempest, TP Revival, HP Revival
Certain ES Weapons only have a restricted set of special effects available to them.
Usage
ES Weapons are especially useful since specials added to them are unreduced regardless of weapon type. This gives them a much higher success rate or special power at inflicting special effects to multiple targets, or repeatedly inflict special effects to a single target, compared to most other weapons. They also fill in the weapon catalog, such as having a Needle-type weapon with specials other than Seize, or having a Partisan-type weapon with Hell.
Since the specials Berserk, Spirit, and Charge are never reduced, non-rare counterparts, if they exist, are typical more powerful if they come with high hit% attribute. Certain rare weapons with unreduced specials will also more powerful than the ES weapon of the same type and the same special effect.

Trivia
- According to Paganini, ES Weapons were developed by the Principal.
- Using the data from East Tower, Paganini discovered a method to add Special Effect to ES Weapons with a certain amount of Photon Drops.
- ES Weapons cannot have attributes since the data for attribute was used to store the custom name.
