ES Weapons, informally known as S-Rank Weapons or S-Ranks, are a special category of weapon which encompass all the weapon types and a few extras, such as the Needle. They have the visual of a basic weapon with a brown photon, and a unique color in the player's inventory. Unlike regular weapons, they have a few unique properties:

  • Custom 8-character name (A-Z only)
  • Cannot have any attributes
  • Can have a custom special applied, which has no reduction regardless of weapon type.

All ES weapons are obtained from Challenge Mode by earning an S-Rank rating, which is done by clearing the Episode under 7 hours or 5 hours, depending on if you're playing Episode 1 or Episode 2, respectively.

Additional information[edit | edit source]

ES weapons cannot be equipped by android classes if they have a Spirit, Geist, or TP Recovery special added.

Despite having a rarity of 12 stars, ES weapons are only worth 5 Team Points individually when donated.

If the player brings Paganini the data from the terminal at the top of Quest icon.pngThe East Tower, the "Modify ES Weapon" option will be available for the character that completes this sidequest, though it can be completed on any difficulty. (Paganini will no longer be accessible in this quest for that character once you have done this, and Hopkins will only state that, "My father is working on a huge project right now.", as an alternative method of checking completion.)

  • Start the East Tower quest
  • Talk to Hopkins in the lab (he is in the same place you would find him in Quest icon.pngGallon's Shop for accessing "Modify ES Weapon" after sidequest completion)
  • Kill Epsilon at the top floor of Control Tower, then interact with the terminal (you will receive a Quest Board item).
    • Upon killing Epsilon, player teleporters (via Tool icon.pngTelepipe or Ryuker.pngRyuker) can no longer be created, and any that are active will be turned off. The gate in the Lab leading to the Central Control Area will also become locked. If you use the provided teleporter before interacting with the terminal, you will be forced to redo the quest to properly complete the sidequest.
  • After clearing the quest, make sure to talk to Hopkins again before handing in the quest at the Hunters Guild.

This allows the player to add a special attack to their ES weapon, with the available specials depending on the number of PDs in the player's inventory and the ES Weapon in question.

Note that Sword icon.pngES Knuckle cannot receive HP Revival and TP Revival, Gun icon.pngES Psychogun can only receive HP Revival and TP Revival, and Cane icon.pngES Windmill can only receive HP Revival, Jellen, TP Revival, and Zalure.

Usage[edit | edit source]

ES Weapons are especially useful since specials added to them are unreduced regardless of weapon type. This gives them a much higher success rate or special power at inflicting special effects to multiple targets, or repeatedly inflict special effects to a single target, compared to most other weapons. They also fill in the weapon catalog, such as having a Needle-type weapon with specials other than Seize, or having a Partisan-type weapon with Hell.

Since the specials Berserk, Spirit and Charge are never reduced, non-rare counterparts, if they exist, are typical more powerful if they come with high hit% attribute. Certain rare weapons with unreduced specials will also be more powerful than the ES weapon of the same type and with the same special effect.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • According to Paganini, ES Weapons were developed by the Principal.
  • Using the data from East Tower, Paganini discovered a method to add Special Effect to ES Weapons with a certain amount of Photon Drops.
  • ES Weapons cannot have attributes since the data for attribute were used to store the custom name.
