Techniques, "Techs" for short, are seemingly magic skills that can only be used by Human and Newman characters.
Unlike normal attacks, Offensive Techniques have their effects based on your character's MST, and are reduced by the target's Resistances rather than their DFP. Offensive Techniques cannot miss (with the exception of Megid which has a trigger chance), but they also cannot deal Critical Hits.
Additionally there are a variety of Support Techniques that can, among other things, Heal or revive allies, raise/lower ATP/DFP and cure Status Ailments.
Techniques can learnt from Tech Disks that drop from enemies or boxes in the world, or can be bought from the Tool Shop. To learn a Technique from a disc your character must have sufficient base MST, the amount required depending on the type of technique and its level.
The maximum level for most Techniques is 30, however Non-Force classes are usually restricted to a maximum of 20 or 15 while CAST characters cannot learn any Techniques and instead get Traps.
As Techniques grow in level they improve in most aspects. The effect is most dramatic for offensive Techniques that benefit from faster cast times, longer range, greater area of effect, more impressive particle animations and, of course, higher damage.
However to use a Technique you must spend TP.
The amount of TP required depends on the type of tech and its level. You can increase the amount of TP you have by raising your MST or equipping TP Units. Spent TP can be restored by consuming Fluid items, using the Medical Centre or taking advantage of the natural TP regeneration effect Newman characters have while standing still.
List of Techniques
Simple Techniques
These techniques are the easiest to learn, cost the least amount of TP and generally deal the highest damage in a single hit to a single enemy
- Foie fires a single fireball in a straight line.
Travels very slowly at lower levels, but quickly gains speed becoming almost instant at higher levels.
While Foie has no other unique qualities, it does boast the highest base power of the simple techniques.
- Zonde attacks a single enemy with a thunderbolt.
The bolt strikes instantly from directly above the enemy and cannot "miss" its target due to travel time.
This makes Zonde the most "accurate" Simple Technique.
- Barta fires a trail of ice across the floor in a straight line, piercing through enemies.
Barta is the only Simple Technique that can hit multiple targets, however it also has the lowest base power among them.
Normal Techniques
Normal, "Medium" or "Gi" techniques toe the line between single target and area of effect.
All Gi Techs can hit multiple targets, but also boast high base power compared to Ra Techs.
- Gifoie casts a ring of fireballs, that circle around the location of the user when it was cast, for a set time.
Gifoie is an extremely useful Technique that can used to suppress huge areas at higher levels and stack up damage for approaching or yet-to-spawn enemies.
However it has one of the longest casting times of any technique in the game. The unit V801 can help mitigate this however.
- Gizonde fires a bolt that travels from enemy to enemy in front of the user.
Gizonde is one of the fastest casting techniques in the game and has excellent base power for an area-of-effect skill.
- Gibarta fires an ice cone in front of the user.
Behaves very similarly to Barta, however it also has a chance to freeze enemies and can be fired upwards.
While it covers a larger area than Barta it is also much slower to cast.
Hard Techniques
"Hard" or "Master" techniques have the highest MST requirements and TP costs of any tech. These include the Ra series of the elemental techniques as well as Grants and Megid which are the Light and Dark techniques respectively. The Ra techs are characterized by their incredible area of effect and fast cast times, while Grants and Megid offer powerful single target.
- Rafoie creates a huge fiery explosion centered upon the target which hits both it and up to 9 other nearby enemies.
Rafoie has the highest power of the Ra techs and boasts extreme flexibility in how it can be employed.
- Razonde casts a powerful lightning bolt in a spiral around the user damaging anything nearby.
Razonde has the largest area of effect of the Ra techniques
- Rabarta fires ice shards in a 360 degree nova centered on the user.
Rabarta, as well as doing high area-of-effect damage, can fulfill a powerful support role in a team through rapidly freezing entire rooms of monsters, even if those monsters are highly resistant to Ice damage.
- Grants charges a powerful explosion of light centered on a single enemy.
Boasting both the highest base power and the longest casting animation of any technique in the game, as well as very long range, Grants is an effective tool for damaging highly mobile enemies due to the fact that once cast on a target it cannot avoid being damaged by it without relying on Invincibility Frames from another attack.
However in terms of damage over time and TP efficiency it is outclassed by the Simple Techniques in most cases. With the right boosting equipment and Class however, Grants can be a very potent technique.
- Megid fires a purple projectile that has a chance to kill enemies in one hit.
Though somewhat unreliable, fairly slow to cast and TP hungry, Megid can be extremely effective against the right enemy. FOnewerl and certain weapons can make Megid pierce through and hit multiple enemies, increasing its usefulness.
Healing Techniques
These techniques heal the user or target, either restoring lost HP, removing Status Ailments or even reviving fallen team-mates
- Resta Heals the user. From level 3 onwards, can also heal other players. All levels of Resta have the same range.
While slower than consuming a Mate item, Resta is very inexpensive and can be used hundreds if not thousands of times given a supply of Fluid items.
An essential staying power tool in any team and truly invaluable when solo.
- Anti Cures the user of certain Status Ailments depending on it's level. From level 2 onward it can also cure other players.
Only has 7 levels, each one adding another set of ailments it can cure. At level 7 Anti is as effective as a Sol Atomizer, capable of removing any status ailment, provided one like Shock or Paralyze doesn't prevent you casting it.
- Reverser Revives a dead player to full HP/TP. Has only a single level.
Reverser has a fairly slow cast time, and is especially slow compared to using a Moon Atomizer.
However, like Resta, Reverser can be used thousands of times on a supply of Fluid items and keeps your team in the fight almost indefinitely as long as someone can remain alive to cast it.
Support Techniques
The Support Techniques Include Shifta/Deband/Jellen/Zalure which together allow you to raise your team's ATP and DFP to incredible heights, while also crippling your enemies ATP and stripping their DFP.
- Shifta Improves the ATP of the user by a percentage that increases with tech level. From level 3 onward it can also affect other nearby allies. Its duration and range is also improved with tech level.
Interestingly, Shifta's effect does not apply to a character's entire ATP value. It will only affect their base ATP (before equipping a weapon) and the Damage Range of the weapon
For example Earth Wand: Brownie has an ATP of 370-670, giving it a range of 300. Only this bonus, randomly rolled, 300 ATP will recieve Shifta's boost, the base 370 ATP will not.
- Deband Improves the DFP of the user by a percentage that increases with tech level.
From level 3 onward it can also affect other nearby allies. Its duration and range is also improved with tech level
- Jellen Reduces the ATP of the target enemy, and up to 9 other nearby enemies, by a percentage that increases with tech level.
Its duration and range is also improved with tech level.
- Zalure Reduces the DFP of the target enemy, and up to 9 other nearby enemies, by a percentage that increases with tech level.
Its duration and range is also improved with tech level.
- Ryuker Creates a Telepipe that allows the user to teleport to Pioneer 2, and return back to the spot it was cast once.
Cannot be used in many areas, such as in boss portals, boss rooms and certain quests.
Detailed Tech Base Values
Technique levels past 15 use a different set of base power and power scaling values.
Base Values Table
Tech | Base Power (1-15) | Base Power (16-30) | Power Growth (2-15) | Power Growth (16-30) | Maximum Targets |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Foie | 110 | -85 | 50 | 65 | 1 |
Gifoie | 260 | 30 | 26 | 42 | 10 |
Rafoie | 350 | 370 | 22 | 21 | 10 |
Barta | 50 | -125 | 50 | 63 | 1 |
Gibarta | 230 | 0 | 24 | 40 | 10 |
Rabarta | 400 | 470 | 19 | 15 | 10 |
Zonde | 80 | 5 | 50 | 55 | 1 |
Gizonde | 200 | -30 | 22 | 38 | 10 |
Razonde | 450 | 550 | 16 | 9 | 10 |
Grants | 1180 | 1400 | 75 | 60 | 1 |
Megid | 27 | 42 | 3 | 2 | 1 |
Resta | 50 | -20 | 5 | 10 | 10 |
From these values we can derive the growth in Tech power per tech level using this formula:
Tech Base Power + (Tech Growth * Tech Level-1)
Tech Scaling Table
Using the formula above we can represent Technique growth per level with this table

Technical Data
Damage Formula
For Techniques that deal damage, you can find that damage using this formula
Damage = round(((TechPower + MST) * 0.2 * (1 + Boosts) * (100 - Resistance) / 100), 1) = round(((TechPower + MST) * (100 - Resistance) * (1 + Boosts) * 0.002), 1)
Healing Formula
To find the amount Resta can heal, use this formula
HP Restored = Tech Power + (MST/2)
Megid
Megid is unique in that while it has a base power and power scaling like other offensive techs it cannot deal damage.
Instead its power represents its percentage chance to instantly kill the target. This chance is reduced directly by an enemy's EDK (Dark) Resistance.
- For example, a level 30 Megid has a Tech Power of 100, which gives it a base 100% chance to kill its target instantly. If you were to hit an enemy with 80EDK this chance would be reduced to 20%.
Casting Animation
The Technique casting animation is made up of several parts:
- Movement from Neutral to Charge
- The actual Charge (instant for many)
- The movement from Charge to Cast
- The "Cooling" period after Casting (notably the least for Gizonde, and the most for Gifoie)
- Moving back to neutral
V801 reduces the time taken by parts 2 and 3. Male bare-handed casting only shortens part 3, and by exactly four frames, regardless of technique level or type.
