Quests and Anniversary event: Difference between pages

Line 1: Line 1:
Quests are optional missions in PSO that give Meseta rewards for clearing them. Many quests also include item rewards. Ephinea offers both the original Sonic Team quests and an assortment of community- and staff-created quests. The majority of quests are available to play in both One Person and multiplayer mode, but some are specific to one or the other. Quests are started at the quest counter, and displayed by category, along with a short description for each quest. Quests are cleared in various ways, with some not having any clear condition at all; most of the Shop quests fall into this category.
The Ephinea Anniversary event is a major annual event that occurs during or around the month of August and lasts four weeks.

Government quests
The anniversary event features the Maximum Attack E series of quests (event-exclusive shorter-form versions of the Maximum Attack E quests), an event-exclusive currency called Anniversary Badges, and the Anniversary milestone system, which awards the community various rate boosts depending on the playerbase's performance.
Government quests can be initiated by talking to Momoka at the G-general Counter in the Principal's Office in Episodes 1 and 4, and Nol in the Lab in Episode 2. They can only be accessed in Normal mode, not in One Person Mode. Similar to previous versions of Phantasy Star Onlines offline story missions, Government quests involve investigating the surface of Ragol and moving through the main story of PSO. Government quest unlocks are episode-based, so clearing Episode 1's quests isn't necessary to play Episode 2 or 4's quests. Additionally, some Government quests give out rewards the first time they're cleared on a given character and difficulty. Unlike other quests, players may join Government quests while they are in progress.

Hunter's Guild
Boosts
The Hunter's Guild counter is located on Pioneer 2, in the same room where players initially spawn. The Hunter's Guild contains all non-Government Quests. In multiplayer, it consists of five categories: Extermination, Maximum Attack, Retrieval, Shop, and VR. In One Person mode, the Hunter's Guild contains two additional categories: Side Story and Solo Only. Rewards for completing missions differ depending on the content of the mission. The Hunter's Guild counter is also used to begin Battle and Challenge Mode games.
Rotating weekly boosts
During the Anniversary event, all four rotating weekly boosts are active simultaneously.

Challenge mode
Milestone rewards
: Main article: Challenge
During the Anniversary event, milestone rewards are unlocked based on a server-wide counter:
Challenge mode stages are available for both Episode 1 and 2, with each Episode having 9 and 5 stages respectively. To play Challenge mode, it must be selected during party creation in the lobby. Parties must clear stages sequentially in order to progress. At the start of each Challenge stage, all levels, equipment, and learned techniques will be reset to the stage's default. Returning to Pioneer 2 is not possible until a stage is either failed or cleared. Each player is given a set number of Scape Dolls; these are the only way party members can be revived. The whole team will be sent back to the Hunter's Guild if the HP of one of the participating member drops to zero and they have run out of Scape Dolls.
* From 2017 to 2022, this counter tracked all monster kills that occurred in Ultimate in the MAE series. For the events where Christmas Fiasco was unlocked as a milestone for the duration of the event, those kills were also counted.
* In 2023, the counter included all kills in Ultimate.
* In 2024, a different counter was implemented, which tracked individual clears of the Maximum Attack E quests, with boosts unlocking based on the number of clears of the least-cleared quest (similar to the previous Hunters Boost Road system).

Milestone rewards include standard boosts, such as those to experience, rare enemy, or drop rates, as well increased Meseta drops, or specific increases to the drop rates of rare or the Anniversary Badges (see below). These milestone rewards apply server-wide, and are not restricted to event-exclusive quests.

Milestone reward progression can be viewed on a subpage of the official Ephinea website that becomes available at the start of each Anniversary event. Players can see their own individual kill counters by entering the Anniversary Badge Shop and speaking to the Guide NPC located in the Hunter's Guild.<!--not sure that checking your kill totals with the guide is still correct-->

During the Anniversary event, four types of rare "Anniversary badge" items will drop from all enemies (with the exception of scared Rappies). The exact drop rates of each badge type have not been released to the community. The availability of each badge type is determined by difficulty (the higher the difficulty, the more common the badge drops):

Anniversary badge drops are not affected by any drop rate boosts, except for those specifically granted by the Anniversary event. Anniversary badges will not drop from item boxes.

Associated quests
The main quests featured in the Anniversary event are the Maximum Attack E series. These quests are designed to last five-to-ten minutes per run, cannot be failed, and award Anniversary badges on clear, with the number and type of badges rewarded depending on difficulty.

A resource that displays items and drop rates for all Anniversary Event quests for all Section IDs can be found on this spreadsheet. It allows manual input on current drop boosts, which will update the rates on all Anniversary quests. Additionally, it calculates the per-run drop rates, which is the chance of finding a drop on a full quest clear.

Battle mode
Shop category
In Battle mode, players battle one another by rules set by the party leader. To play Battle mode, it must be selected during party creation in the lobby. At the beginning of each game, the rules set by the team leader will be displayed; each player will be positioned at one of four starting locations. Players compete to defeat as many of their opponents as possible within the time limit. Certain weapons, items, equipment, Mags, and techniques may be unusable, depending on the selected rules. A player falls when their HP drops to 0, and the fallen player will respawn at a random location on the map. The game is over when time expires.
Anniversary Badge Shop
The Anniversary Badge Shop is one of the featured quests during the annual Anniversary event. This quest features numerous shops and NPCs, at or with which players may trade in their Anniversary Badges for various items.

Quest Boosts
This quest may be selected at the quest counter year-round.
Ephinea features the Ragol Boost Road (frequently referred to as simply "RBR"), a weekly re-occurrence which highlights one quest in each of Episodes 1, 2, and 4 (choosing from a predetermined list), granting the party various rate boosts while playing them. A resource that displays items and drop rates for all RBR quests for all Section IDs can be found on this spreadsheet.

Additional quest boosts are granted during certain Events. During the annual Anniversary Event, exclusive quests can be accessed with increased rates. A resource that displays items and drop rates for all Anniversary Event quests for all Section IDs can be found on this spreadsheet.

Revision as of 18:17, 1 August 2025

The Ephinea Anniversary event is a major annual event that occurs during or around the month of August and lasts four weeks.

Boosts

Rotating weekly boosts

During the Anniversary event, all four rotating weekly boosts are active simultaneously.

Milestone rewards

During the Anniversary event, milestone rewards are unlocked based on a server-wide counter:

 • From 2017 to 2022, this counter tracked all monster kills that occurred in Ultimate in the MAE series. For the events where Christmas Fiasco was unlocked as a milestone for the duration of the event, those kills were also counted.
 • In 2023, the counter included all kills in Ultimate.
 • In 2024, a different counter was implemented, which tracked individual clears of the Maximum Attack E quests, with boosts unlocking based on the number of clears of the least-cleared quest (similar to the previous Hunters Boost Road system).

Milestone rewards include standard boosts, such as those to experience, rare enemy, or drop rates, as well increased Meseta icon.pngMeseta drops, or specific increases to the drop rates of Tool icon.pngPhoton Drops or the Anniversary Badges (see below). These milestone rewards apply server-wide, and are not restricted to event-exclusive quests.

Milestone reward progression can be viewed on a subpage of the official Ephinea website that becomes available at the start of each Anniversary event. Players can see their own individual kill counters by entering the Quest icon.pngAnniversary Badge Shop and speaking to the Guide NPC located in the Hunter's Guild.

Badge Difficulty
Tool icon.pngAnniv. Bronze Badge Normal (or higher)
Tool icon.pngAnniv. Silver Badge Very Hard (or higher)
Tool icon.pngAnniv. Gold Badge Ultimate
Tool icon.pngAnniv. Platinum Badge Ultimate
