Smartlink is a rare unit that functions in a more complicated way than its description implies, as it does not grant any ATA on equip. Smartlink removes an accuracy penalty that Hunters and Forces incur when using ranged attacks from greater distance (including Slicers and Cards).
Notably, this accuracy penalty is not an ATA penalty, but rather a direct subtraction from the hit chance, which comes after the ATA vs. EVP calculation. The accuracy penalty without Smartlink equipped is 0.33 per unit of distance. Rangers lack this penalty as a trait inherent to their class, and thus do not need (nor can they equip) this unit.
