Mags are equippable robotic companions that accompany hunters on their quests and help out in various ways. Mags can boost a player's stats, cast Resta, Shifta, and Deband on the player, grant temporary invincibility and unleash powerful attacks known as Photon Blasts.
All players start with a level 5 Mag, which grants the player 5 base DFP, and can be raised by feeding it various consumable items. Feeding the Mag will cause it to level up in certain fields, granting the player extra base stats.
Mags may also be obtained from various box drops in Mine, Jungle East and Mountain. For specific item sources, see Mag.
Mag basics
Mags have 4 core stats, DEF, POW, DEX, and MIND, the sum of which determine their overall level. All Mags start out at level 5 with 5 DEF, and must be fed a variety of items to level their stats, which will then be transferred to the player when equipped. A Mag can have a total level of 200, with each stat also having a limit of 200.
Each Mag gains experience out of 100 in different stats for each item to fed to it, so it is important to feed each Mag the correct items depending on how the player wishes for the Mag to level. Mags may also lose experience in the various stats depending on the item, but they cannot lose levels.
At levels 10, 35, and 50, Mags will also evolve, granting them a new form and potentially learning a Photon Blast. The evolution achieved depends on the stats of the Mag, the section ID of the player, and the class of the player evolving the Mag. After level 50, Mags may also evolve every 5 levels if another evolution condition is met.
Mags also have two secondary stats, which determine the power of their triggers and Photon Blasts. These are Synchro, with a limit of 120%, and IQ, with a limit of 200. These stats have no effect on the Mag's total level, and are increased/decreased independently.
Stat | Description |
---|---|
DEF | Grants the player 1 base DFP per level |
POW | Grants the player 2 base ATP per level |
DEX | Grants the player 0.5 base ATA per level |
MIND | Grants the player 2 base MST per level |
Synchro | Determines the damage dealt by Photon Blasts, and success rate of some triggers |
IQ | Determines the strength of Shifta, Deband, and Resta granted by the Mag, and has a small impact on the damage dealt by some Photon Blasts |
Photon Blast
- Main article: Photon Blast
Photon Blasts are special attacks performed by a Mag by unleashing its power built up over time. They can be used after a Mag is level 10 and learns its first Photon Blast, and the player has built the Photon Blast gauge by dealing and receiving damage. Once the player has built to 100%, the Photon Blast can be unleashed by pressing the appropriate face button on the alternate palette; any other actions on the alternate palette will be temporarily unavailable.
A Mag can learn up to 3 different Photon Blasts, learning another Photon Blast at 35, and potentially a third at level 50 if the Photon Blast of the newly evolved Mag has not been learned previously. If the Mag does not learn a Photon Blast at level 50, it may learn another one if it evolves into another Mag that has a Photon Blast not previously learned.
Action | Formula |
---|---|
Dealt damage | Damage dealt / (character level * 15.0)
|
Received damage | (Damage taken * 20.0) / (character level * 15.0)
|
Mag triggers
Mags may possess triggers, which are special effects that may occur upon 3 different criteria. These triggers are not always guaranteed to occur, and the success rate depends on the Mag.
Criteria | Description |
---|---|
100 PB | May occur when the player reaches a full Photon Blast gauge |
10% HP | May occur when the player loses over 20% HP and drops under 10% HP at once |
Boss room | May occur when the player enters a boss room |
There are three different effects which may be triggered when a mag trigger is successful:
Icon | Name | Description |
---|---|---|
Invulnerability | Grants the player 30 seconds of invulnerability from all direct damage sources. HP/TP reducing effects will still apply, such as Spirit or Berserk, and damage from Dark Falz's soul bind will still occur | |
Resta | Casts Resta. Level cast is (IQ/40)+1 , for a maximum of level 6
| |
Shifta and Deband | Casts Shifta and Deband. Level cast is (IQ/40)+1 , for a maximum of level 6
|
Synchro triggers
There are various triggers which are affected positively or negatively by Synchro. These are either "positive" or "negative" triggers, represented by (+) and (-) respectively.
Depending on Synchro, the Mag is boosted by the below table.
Synchro | Rate Boost |
---|---|
0-30% | +0% |
31-60% | +15% |
61-80% | +25% |
81-100% | +30% |
101-120% | +35% |
A "positive" (+) trigger has its rate increased depending on the synchro of the Mag. This boost is added directly onto the base rate of the Mag.
A "negative" (-) trigger ignores the base rate of the Mag, and only considers the Synchro Boost. This means any negative trigger has an effective base rate of 0%.
Mag colors
A Mag can come with one of 30 different colors. The original 18 colors can be obtained from character creation, the color depending on which outfit the character was created with. The Ephinea-exclusive colors, however, can only be obtained from a Mag that is dropped. Dropped mags also include the original 18 colors in their drop table.

Second evolution Mags
Second evolution Mags occur at level 35, and their evolution depends what they evolve from and what their highest stat is. The class being used is irrelevant in almost all cases; for example, if the Mag is a Kalki, it can only evolve into Surya, Mitra, and Tapas. If two stats are equal, the Mag will evolve dependent on the class that evolved its 1st evolution; for example, if a Mag's stats are 7/14/14/0:
- Varuna follows "POW > Others". Evolves into Rudra.
- Kalki follows "DEX > Others". Evolves into Mitra.
- Vrita follows "MIND > Others". Evolves into Namuci.

Third evolution Mags
Any common Mag will evolve into these Mags when fed starting from level 50, and every five levels beyond that. You can switch characters to allow it to evolve again with one feed during an evolution level. This is useful for switching feed tables or cell usage.
Note: Equality conditions for equations with '≥' have not all been verified yet.

Fourth evolution Mags
Fourth evolution Mags occur first at level 100 and any 10th level thereafter where their formulas are met (110, 120, 130... etc.), and can only be evolved from a third evolution Mag. Unlike other evolutions, fourth evolutions are not guaranteed as they require a specific class, sex, and a formula to be met based on ID. If you used a character that does not have a fourth evolution for the formula you attempted, you can switch to another character that does have a fourth evolution and feed the Mag once to evolve it. Once a Mag has evolved into a fourth evolution, it cannot evolve further based on its stat makeup.

Cell Mags
Cell Mags are fourth evolution Mags that are obtained through the usage of a Mag cell on another Mag. Most cell Mags evolve from third evolution Mags. Most Mags that have reached fourth evolution cannot evolve again. In several instances Mags can evolve from fourth evolution Mags or a Mag.
All cell Mags use feeding table 7.
