Mechanics
The fight against Dark Falz occurs in 4 phases (3 phases in Normal difficulty). Upon arriving in the boss arena, begin the battle by approaching the monolith on the other side of the arena.
Phase 1
Dozens of Darvants will spawn, filling the arena. Select Darvants can be targeted and killed; the rest are invulnerable. Darvants which are targetable appear with normal yellow dots on the minimap, whereas untargetable Darvants have faded yellow dots. The property of targetability will periodically shift to new Darvants. All Darvants will damage you if they touch you.
To complete the phase, kill a set number of targetable Darvants. Gifoie is extremely helpful in this phase due to its very large area of effect, however other area-of-effect attacks are also useful. Upon completing the phase, all Darvants will die.
Phase 2
Dark Falz itself spawns on phase 2, riding a huge three-headed beast. It will move around the arena, regularly disgorging Darvants from one of its heads. The Darvants it spawns will head toward one player and swarm around them, dealing damage on contact, however they can be killed easily. In between, Dark Falz will attack with Rafoie, Rabarta (potentially inflicting freeze), and Divine Punishment.
To complete the phase, attack Dark Falz by targeting the heads of its mount.
On this phase it is possible to become temporarily trapped against the edge of the arena by Dark Falz. This doesn't deal any damage, and you can still attack, but you can't move until Dark Falz shifts position again.
Phase 3
In phase 3, Dark Falz will lose its mount and begin hovering around the edge of the arena. In between attacks it will move to different positions around the edge. It stays out of melee distance until it descends slightly to attack. On Ultimate difficulty, it moves around the arena much more quickly.
Dark Falz continues to attack primarily with Rafoie and Rabarta. Its Rafoie attack travels across the arena in a line of numerous explosions. It may also slam the ground, causing slow on all players, before attacking with Divine Punishment. Finally, Dark Falz may occasionally cast Resta to heal itself.
To complete the phase, attack Dark Falz, which is easiest while it is stationary.
Phase 4
This phase does not occur on Normal difficulty.
The battle arena transforms into a floating ring, with Dark Falz hovering in the center. After making its initial attack, it will move next to the inner edge of the ring and hover in place for a few seconds before moving to a different spot. After a few such moves, Dark Falz will climb above the arena, make an attack, then cast Grants on each player. It will then descend back to the arena and repeat the cycle.
When beginning this phase, Dark Falz initially makes a swipe attack with its arm, dealing a large amount of fixed damage (see table below). It may make one or more of these attacks, switching position each time it does so to target different players.
When above the arena, Dark Falz typically attacks with a barrage of energy orbs which target and slightly follow one player. These orbs also deal fixed damage, however it is common for two orbs to hit at the same time, dealing double damage. Dark Falz may substitute this attack with level 5 Megid (40 EDK required for immunity).
Furthermore, after Dark Falz is sufficiently damaged, it may forego its swipe attack in favor of stealing a random player's soul. While it holds a player's soul, any damage that would be dealt to Dark Falz is instead dealt to the chosen player. If the chosen player dies, Dark Falz can be damaged as normal. After it completes a cycle while holding a soul, Dark Falz returns the soul to the player, then attacks them with a swipe.
Finally, Dark Falz will intermittently gain a light metallic sheen, similar to that of Dark Gunners. While covered in this way, Dark Falz is invulnerable to standard weapon damage. Special weapon attacks and techniques can still damage it.
To complete this phase, spread out the party around the ring, to prevent multiple players from being hit by swipes and orbs. Attack Dark Falz at each opportunity, keeping in mind its intermittent immunity to weapon damage. Forces should spam mid to high level Foie due to its long range and Dark Falz's weakness to it. When Dark Falz steals a player's soul, stop attacking and wait out the remainder of the phase until the soul is returned.
