Quests are optional missions in Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst that players may undertake from the Hunter's Guild on Pioneer 2. Quests will almost always reward the player with
Meseta on clear, with many quests also granting item rewards.
Quests are started at the quest counter, and displayed by category, along with a short description for each quest. Quests are cleared in various ways, with some not having any clear condition at all (this most commonly applies to quests in the Shop category). Once a quest has been initiated, no other players may join the party.
When a quest is cleared and the player speaks to the quest counter NPC to receive their reward, they are automatically removed from the current game and returned to the Visual Lobby. In the case of quests which have no clear condition, a player can return to the lobby more quickly by using the /lobby chat command.
While quests are optional, one of the main reasons to play them is that they offer varied and unique amounts or arrangements of monster spawns, which is ideal for players looking to obtain rare items from specific monsters. As an example, the Episode 1 side story quest
The Fake in Yellow takes place in Forest 1, but features only Rag Rappies as enemies.
While the majority of quests are available to play in both One Person and multiplayer mode, some are specific to one or the other. Most notably, quests in the Side Story and Solo Only categories may only be initiated in games set to One Person mode, while Government quests (detailed below) may only be initiated in multiplayer games.
As a private server, Ephinea offers both the official servers' original Sonic Team quests, as well as an assortment of staff- and community-created quests.
Government quests
Government quests are multiplayer mode-only quests that serve to tell the story of Phantasy Star Online, and differ from most other quests in the following ways:
- They must be cleared sequentially (beginning with the first Government quest in each episode);
- They may be joined by other players while in-progress;
- They must be initiated by:
- Speaking with Momoka at The Principal in Episodes 1 and 4;
- Speaking with Nol at the Lab in Episode 2;
Additionally, some Government quests give out rewards the first time they're cleared on a given character and difficulty.
Quest boosts
Ephinea features the Ragol Boost Road (frequently referred to as simply "RBR"), a weekly re-occurrence which highlights one quest in each of Episodes 1, 2, and 4 (choosing from a predetermined list), granting the party various rate boosts while playing them. A resource that displays items and drop rates for all RBR quests for all Section IDs can be found on this spreadsheet.
Additional quest boosts are granted during certain Events. During the annual Anniversary event, exclusive quests can be accessed with increased rates. A resource that displays items and drop rates for all Anniversary Event quests for all Section IDs can be found on this spreadsheet.
