Tekking is a process done to identify weapons and raise their attributes, if they have any. Non-rare weapons with specials are found in an unknown or untekked state, denoted by "<div style="color: #00fffc; display: inline;">????</div>" in front of the weapon name. All rare weapons are initially dropped with the name "<div style="color: #00fffc; display: inline;">Special Weapon</div>". There is a Tekker located in each episode's shop who can identify, or tekk, a weapon for 100 meseta. A weapon's special, attributes, and grind can vary when tekking. It is not uncommon to have to tekk a weapon multiple times to obtain the most desirable weapon special and photon attributes.

Tekking is the service offered by the Tekker in the shopping district. The primary function of tekking is to identify unknown weapons and enable their specials to be used. Both common weapons, when dropped with special attacks, and rare weapons are found in this unknown, or "untekked" state. This untekked state is denoted by <span class=untekked>cyan text</span>.

By default, untekked common weapons will have question marks preceding the type of weapon it is (e.g. ), while all rare weapons will drop as SpecialWeapon. The <code>/showwep</code> chat command, once used, will enable the player to view the full name (and, for common weapons, special) of untekked weapons (still in cyan text).

When taking an unknown weapon to the tekker, the tekker will offer an identification attempt for 100 per attempt, then ask the player if they are satisfied with the result. The ability to refuse an identification attempt is extremely important, as on each attempt, the weapon's special attack, attributes, and grind can all vary. Once the player confirms an identification, the weapon's parameters cannot be changed further (with the exceptions of increasing non-Hit attributes or grinding).

Each Tekker (determined by a character's Section ID), will have better or worse chances to increase or decrease each of a weapon's parameters, as well as a second set of better or worse chances for their "preferred" weapons. These preferences are shown later in this page.

Specials
Specials
For non-rare weapons, each unidentified weapon comes with a hidden special that can vary when being tekked. For example, Arrest's activation rate is 80%, Seize's is 64%, Hold's is 48%, and Bind's is 32%. Tekking a weapon to have the most desirable special can make it much more effective. Specials can be tekked up or down one level, so an untekked Seize weapon can be tekked up to Arrest or down to Hold. A weapon's base special can't be viewed before it's tekked, unless an external addon is used. Rare weapons have a set special which does not change when tekking. See the list of special attacks for more information on special attack levels.
See also: Special attacks

When a common weapon drops in an untekked state, it is dropped with a predetermined "base" special attack, which can then increase or decrease, by one rarity tier, through the tekking process (with the exception of sacrificial specials). Understanding a weapon's base special, and how tekking may affect it, is extremely important for maximizing an untekked weapon's potential usefulness.

<div class="toccolours mw-collapsible mw-collapsed" style="width:450px">

If an untekked weapon is dropped with the Seize special, it may, on each identification attempt:
# Be tekked up to Arrest;
# Remain as Seize;
# Be tekked down to Hold
#* Not be tekked down to Bind, as Bind is two tiers lower than Seize.

If the weapon were to drop with the Hold special, it may:
# Be tekked up to Seize;
# Remain as Hold;
# Be tekked down to Bind;
#* Not be tekked up to Arrest, as Arrest is two tiers higher than Hold.
</div></div>

An untekked weapon's base special may only be viewed through usage of the <code>/showwep</code> command, or an external addon. Rare weapons (SpecialWeapon) are also exempt from this, as each rare weapon has its own inherent special attack that cannot be changed through tekking.

Additionally, each tekker has their own chance of tekking a weapon's special up or down, as shown in the table below:

Photon attributes
: Main article: Weapon attributes
Weapons can have up to three of five photon attributes: Native, A.Beast, Machine, Dark and Hit. Percentages in Native, A.Beast, Machine, and Dark will increase a weapon's damage to the corresponding enemy types, while Hit increases attack accuracy. When untekked, these percentages can vary from 5-90% in each category. The untekked weapon's percentages can be viewed in the inventory.

Photon attributes can be tekked up or down by 10%, but attributes of 0% can't be altered during the tekking process. This means that incorrectly tekking an item with a 5% attribute can lead to a -5% attribute. While additional percentages can be added to Native, A.Beast, Machine, and Dark through Gallon's Shop#Adding attributes to weapons, a weapon's Hit attribute can only be modified during the tekking process. Tekking a weapon to have the most desirable photon attributes is an important part of the tekking process.

Note that reducing a photon attribute's value to 0% by "downtekking" the item will not free up that attribute slot, and the weapon will be defined as having 0% in that attribute, versus not having it at all. In practical terms, this means that downtekking a weapon with 5% in A.Beast and 25% in Dark to 0% in A.Beast and 20% in Dark will not then allow a player to increase its Machine attribute through Gallon's Shop.

Photon Attributes
Each tekker has their own chance of tekking a weapon's photon attributes up or down, as shown in the table below:

Grind
Grind
A non-rare weapon's grind can be tekked up or down by 4. A weapon's base grind is the most obvious trait it has, since even when untekked, the grind is in the item's name. Rare weapons have a set grind of 0, which does not change when tekking. A weapon's grind is the least important aspect of tekking, since grind can easily be added to a weapon by using grinders. Obtaining the desired special and photon attributes should be prioritized when tekking.

Special Cases
Each tekker has their own chance of tekking a weapon's grind up or down, as shown in the table below:
Quests such as Claire's Deal require specific weapon specials to craft items. In this case it is often beneficial to tekk down a weapon's special so that it can be used to craft a new and better item. For example, to craft a PB/Increase, one of the necessary components is a Seize Launcher. An Arrest Launcher has a much higher activation rate for paralysis, but it is beneficial to tekk it down to Seize to obtain a component for a PB/Increase.

It can also be beneficial to tekk a weapon's attributes to make adding percentages to it more cost-effective. It costs 20 Photon Drops to add 5% to a weapon's photon attribute and 1 Photon Sphere to add 30%. Tekking a weapon's photon attributes to 70%, 40%, or 10% in order to use Photon Spheres can save a considerable amount of Photon Drops.

The Tekker (Redria icon.pngRedria), in episodes 1 and 4

Tekking is the service offered by the Tekker in the shopping district. The primary function of tekking is to identify unknown weapons and enable their specials to be used. Both common weapons, when dropped with special attacks, and rare weapons are found in this unknown, or "untekked" state. This untekked state is denoted by cyan text.

By default, untekked common weapons will have question marks preceding the type of weapon it is (e.g. Gun icon.png???? Handgun), while all rare weapons will drop as Untekked icon.pngSpecial Weapon. The /showwep chat command, once used, will enable the player to view the full name (and, for common weapons, special) of untekked weapons (still in cyan text).

When taking an unknown weapon to the tekker, the tekker will offer an identification attempt for Meseta icon.png100 Meseta per attempt, then ask the player if they are satisfied with the result.

Specials

See also: Special attacks

When a common weapon drops in an untekked state, it is dropped with a predetermined "base" special attack, which can then increase or decrease, by one rarity tier, through the tekking process (with the exception of sacrificial specials). Understanding a weapon's base special, and how tekking may affect it, is extremely important for maximizing an untekked weapon's potential usefulness.

Common weapon special tekking example:

An untekked weapon's base special may only be viewed through usage of the /showwep command, or an external addon. Rare weapons (Untekked icon.pngSpecial Weapon) are also exempt from this, as each rare weapon has its own inherent special attack that cannot be changed through tekking.

Additionally, each tekker has their own chance of tekking a weapon's special up or down, as shown in the table below:

Weapon special tekking chance:

Tekker Up None Down
Viridia 10% 60% 30%
Greenill 25% 65% 10%
Skyly 15% 70% 15%
Bluefull 10% 60% 30%
Purplenum 25% 65% 10%
Pinkal 15% 70% 15%
Redria 20% 60% 20%
Oran 15% 70% 15%
Yellowboze 25% 65% 10%
Whitill 10% 60% 30%

Photon attributes

Main article: Weapon attributes

While additional percentages can be added to Native, A.Beast, Machine, and Dark through Quest icon.pngGallon's Shop, a weapon's Hit attribute can only be modified during the tekking process.

Each tekker has their own chance of tekking a weapon's photon attributes up or down, as shown in the table below:

Weapon attribute tekking chances:

Tekker +10 +5 ±0 -5 -10
Viridia 15% 22% 49% 11% 3%
Greenill 15% 15% 42% 20% 8%

Oran 30% 37% 26% 5% 2%
Yellowboze 15% 15% 42% 20% 8%
Whitill 15% 22% 49% 11% 3%

Grind

A non-rare weapon's grind can be tekked up or down by 3.

Each tekker has their own chance of tekking a weapon's grind up or down, as shown in the table below:

Weapon grind tekking chances:

Tekker +3 +2 +1 ±0 -1 -2 -3
Viridia 9% 10% 13% 54% 8% 6% 0%

Special cases

Quests such as Quest icon.pngClaire's Deal require specific weapon specials to craft items. In this case it is often beneficial to tekk a weapon's special down so that it can be used to craft a new and better item. For example, to craft a Unit icon.pngPB/Increase, one of the necessary components is a Gun icon.pngSeize Launcher. An Gun icon.pngArrest Launcher has a much higher activation rate for paralysis, but it is beneficial to tekk it down to Seize to obtain a component for a PB/Increase.
